Beware of False Advertisements
What is False Advertisment?
This term refers to the deceptive or misleading promotion of a product or service through false or exaggerated claims.
For example, falsely labeling products as "cruelty-free" when they do not meet the necessary criteria would be considered false advertising. Also, if your product's niche is unrelated to such animal testing in the first place, this also constitutes to fraudulent advertising in order to create a false pretence of a high-end brand.
Similarly, brands labeling products with superlatives like "World's No. 1" or "Nation's most favorite" without any source referencing is also a kind of false advertising i.e. misleading the public.
What is Misrepresentation?
This term encompasses any action or statement that misleads others about the true nature or qualities of something. Misrepresenting a product as meeting certain ethical or environmental standards when it does not would fall under this category.
Likewise, brands advertising claims through statistics like "98% saw reduced dark spots", "99% saw visible shine in hair" without mentioning the source of their data or quoting the research that led to such findings, are also possibly misleading the public at large without substantiative evidence.
What is Greenwashing?
Greenwashing refers to the practice of making misleading or unsubstantiated claims about the environmental benefits of a product or company in order to appear more environmentally friendly than they actually are. This term is often used in the context of companies that falsely market their products as being eco-friendly or sustainable.
